I was in Costa
Rica with
three friends
staying at
the Vista
Villa... One
night the
owner comes
over to us
and introduces
himself and
asks us where
we are from
and has a
beer with
us. Then a
few other
guy came over
that I met
last year
there and
three other
guys we met
from Cal.
So out of
the blue this guy Brad (the
owner) asks
us if we would
be interested
in a trip
to Ollies
and Witch's
Rock. He says
he knows this
guy who has
a 47 foot
boat in Playa
Flamingo who
he could call
and see if
he could set
up a trip
for early
the next day.
So he goes
and calls
the guy and
the guy says
he can do it.
There was
a good South
swell hitting
and missing
Tamarindo
but Ollies
should be
good. He said
it was expensive
but you get
breakfast
on the way
out and lunch
and all the
breer and
alcohol you
want.. Anyway
ten of us
get up and
make the drive
to Playa Flamingo
and head North
to Ollies
first because
of the tide.
The boat ride
was amazing.
Huge swells
pounding the
rocky points.
I was Pumped
but a little
scared seeing
the size of
the waves,
wondering
if I could
handle the
pounding.
When we pulled
up at Ollies
there was
one Panga
with four
guys out..
It was so
beautiful,
8-10 feet
with some
bigger sets.
we jumped
off the boat
and paddled
into the rotation.
The first
wave I got
was way over
by the point
very deep
with those
strong offshore
winds. The
wave was unreal,
It was just
soooo fast
rides 100
to 150 meters
long. There
were Crocks
on the beach
in the scrub.
You could
see them watching
us. One of
the guys on
the boat who
was surfing
with us said
they won't
bother ya,
their just
sun bathing.
Wave after
wave till
I could'nt
paddle any
more. Then
we headed
back to Witch's
Rock. It was
a couple of
feet ovehead
and clean.
We surfed
there untill
we had to
leave to make
it back before
dark. We were
all so stoked!!!!
We drank Imperials
and toasted
each other
on such a
great experience.
On the way
back to Playa
Flamingo Two
Dolphins followed
the boat for
miles and
it was incredible.
Let me say
I have been
surfing for
32 years in
the state
of New Hampshire,
raised two
kids and have
dreamed of
places like
this and trips
like this.
Surfing with
buddies and
people you
have just
met for the
first time
and creating
a bond that will last
forever. Im
just glad
to have shared
this little
story with
you guys...
